Go PINK with deZEN
Some of our amazing clients have said some very nice things about us and we wanted to highlight their positive feedback.
-I came to Salon DeZen with my husband, 2 year old son and 10 month old baby for a cut and color. It was a Tuesday and there were only two stylists working… so my kids were able to crawl and run around without annoying anyone. The girls were so sweet to my son who kept asking them questions. Sarah did my hair and she did such an amazing job! Not only are is the organic dye they use a hair saver, the color turns out beautiful! She was so helpful in coming up with a plan for getting my hair back to its natural blonde. I also ended with a fantastic cut and gasp, BANGS! I love them and so does everyone else. It has been about a month or so since I was there and I am STILL getting compliments on the cut and color. I highly recommend this place… maybe don’t bring the whole family, (I didn’t have a choice!) but still, come see Sarah!
(also, the salon is BEAUTIFUL!)

-This place is awesome. Ask for either Dominique or Alice, call ahead and make an appointment.
From: Kyle H.
-I was tossing around the idea of a pixie cut for a long time (like Ginnfer Goodwin and Jennifer Lawrence). Anyone with long hair knows that even the thought of parting with it can bring on anxiety. Well, after chatting with Maria for a few minutes I decided to take the plunge. After thirteen years of long hair, I have my pixie cut and LOVE it. While she was at it, she made me the red head I have always wanted to be. Not the red from the box kind of red head, but the kind that looks like I was born with it and decided to accentuate it with lighter red highlights. I am in love with my hair for the first time in years and am so excited to have literal blow dry and go hair. I am loving Salon deZen right now!

Thank you so much Elizabeth, Kyle, and Sarah for the feedback! We appreciate the kind words.
Who has time to do their hair in the summer when we all want to get out and have fun in the sun as quickly as possible? Here are some quick summer hair tricks:
1. Scrunch and tousle your damp hair with mousse of your choice. We recommend Surface Jump Volume Mousse. Individually twist sections of hair into ringlets and let it air dry. For even more beachy waves, use a texture spray like O’right Deep-sea Mineral Water Spray after your hair is dry and continue to mess it up for a frizzy look ON PURPOSE.
2. Apply a smoothing oil (try O’right Champagne Rose Oil or Purple Rose Oil) to damp hair, then place it into a twisted bun with an elastic hair tie that will not leave any dents. When your hair is completely dry, take it down to reveal a smooth wavy look!
3. Spray a beach texture spray into your damp hair and place into several low braids. When your hair is dry, take it down to see your beautiful crimped locks.
4. Shampoo your hair before you go to bed. Set damp hair into rolled pin curls and take them down when you wake up. Shake out the curls and use a shine product if necessary.
*Also, this summer don’t forget about the Malibu line of shampoo.

We shampoo and condition our hair without a second thought, but do we know why we are doing it? Going through the motions, it is easy to forget what the purpose actually is. Here are some neat tips about shampoo and conditioner that not everyone realizes that can save time and money and improve the look of hair:
-Shampoo is designed for the roots of your hair. You can put a dime size amount in your hands and apply it directly to your roots. There is no need to use a whole handful and pull it all the way down to the ends of our hair. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and save on shampoo by only shampooing your roots. The water will also wash just enough shampoo down to the ends of your hair. Sometimes it doesn’t lather the first time, so we think we need to add more. In fact, first add water before pouring more shampoo in your hand. Water alone helps shampoo to lather, especially if it is concentrated. If the shampoo still does not lather, then completely rinse it out and apply another dime size at your roots and massage. The second time it WILL lather.
-Conditioner is designed for the ends of your hair. Put a small amount in your hands depending on your hair length and apply it directly to the ends of your hair. Hold your hair as if you are putting it in a low ponytail and apply the conditioner to the hair below your hand. Leave a wide toothed comb in the shower so you can comb the conditioner through. That will also get a small amount on your roots without over-doing it. If you are prone to oily hair, this will change your life. Applying conditioner directly to the roots of your hair will cause it to feel shiny and oily much faster than when you just use it on the ends and comb it through.
-Try not to over-wash your hair. Most people do not need to shampoo their hair everyday unless it is extremely oily. Start out by trying to wash it every other day if you are a daily hair washer. You can purchase a shower cap from almost any drugstore or Sally’s Beauty Supply to protect your hair while showering.
-At the very end of conditioning your hair when you have removed all the product, use cold water. This can be hard in the cold winter months, but give it a try on those hot summer days to try it out. As you wash your hair with warm water the cuticle of your hair opens up. Cold water helps to seal the cuticle of your hair to make it smooth and shiny.
-Extremely curly or dry hair can benefit from skipping the shampoo all together sometimes. Sulfates in shampoos can take too much moisture out of your hair, so only using conditioner when your hair is feeling extra dry can be beneficial. In the shower, you can still wet your hair and massage your scalp to help clean any debris, just use conditioner afterwards to replenish your hair’s moisture.
Itchy scalp, dandruff, damaged and dry hair. These things have a common root problem: harsh chemicals in hair color. The solution: organic color, which is free of harsh chemicals and actually strengthens and thickens hair. The brand used at Salon deZEN, Organic Color Systems, uses a moisturizing oil base and deposits protein into the hair. This means it actually improves the quality of your hair while coloring! We are constantly looking for shiny, healthy looking hair, so why are we damaging it with color that contains ammonia, resorcinol (an ingredient that the European Union has actually banned from color due to its harmful properties), and carcinogens? I think we need to take it back a notch. Starting in ancient times, women used natural ingredients to keep their hair shiny and smooth. They had the right idea.
I’ve seen the damage that regular peroxide that is mixed with professional color can do. In the past, before organic color was an option, I opened a shipment of hair color that contained developer with ammonia as an ingredient. One of the bottles was busted and I got some developer on my fingers. I continued what I was doing and less than 5 minutes later my fingers were burning and itching from being exposed to the chemicals. It opened my eyes to how dangerous it is to use this type of color line. If it can do that to your hand, imagine what it can do to your tender scalp.
Being an Organic Concepts Salon is something we take pride in at Salon deZEN. We continue to push for healthy alternatives in an industry that has just begun to realize how harmful it has been in the past. The future of getting your hair done quickly and efficiently does not have to mean frying it with chemicals. Looking beautiful comes from being healthy. When our bodies aren’t constantly trying to fight the chemicals and toxins we are subjecting ourselves to, we have more time to look and feel our best!
